Overview

What Ad Is This is an ad pixel detection tool that runs entirely in your browser. It does not collect, store, or transmit any data.

In short: We don't collect anything. No data leaves your browser. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no cookies.

What the extension does

When you click the extension icon, it scans the current page's DOM and network requests to detect advertising pixels, tracking tags, and marketing scripts. The scan results (platform names, tag IDs) are displayed in the popup and are never sent anywhere.

Data we collect

None. Specifically:

No personal information
No browsing history or URLs visited
No page content
No scan results or detected pixel IDs
No cookies or tracking identifiers
No analytics or telemetry

Data storage

The extension does not use chrome.storage, local storage, or any other persistence mechanism. Scan results exist only in the popup and are discarded when it closes.

Network requests

The extension makes zero network requests. It does not communicate with any server, API, or third-party service. All scanning happens locally by reading the page's existing DOM elements and the browser's Performance API.

External links

The extension provides links to public ad transparency tools (Google Ads Transparency Center, Meta Ad Library, TikTok Ad Library, LinkedIn Ad Library). Clicking these links opens a new tab to the respective platform's public website. No data is sent to these platforms by the extension.

Permissions explained

activeTab — Allows the extension to read the current page's scripts and network requests to detect advertising pixels. Access is limited to the active tab and only when the popup is open.
scripting — Allows the extension to inject the scanner script that reads DOM elements and the Performance API to identify tracking tags. The script does not modify page content.

Third-party services

This extension does not use any third-party services, SDKs, libraries, or analytics tools.
