Overview

What Color Is This is a color picker tool that runs entirely in your browser. It does not collect, store, or transmit any data.

In short: We don't collect anything. No data leaves your browser. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no cookies.

What the extension does

When you activate the extension, it captures a screenshot of the current tab to read pixel colors under your cursor. This screenshot exists only in memory, is never saved to disk, and is never sent anywhere. It is discarded when you deactivate the extension or navigate away.

Data we collect

None. Specifically:

No personal information
No browsing history or URLs visited
No page content or screenshots saved
No cookies or tracking identifiers
No analytics or telemetry
No usage statistics
No color data or picked values

Data storage

The extension does not use chrome.storage, local storage, or any other persistence mechanism. No data is stored between sessions.

Network requests

The extension makes zero network requests. It does not communicate with any server, API, or third-party service. All processing happens locally in your browser.

Tab capture

The extension uses chrome.tabs.captureVisibleTab to take a temporary in-memory screenshot of the active tab. This is necessary to read pixel colors accurately. The screenshot:

Exists only in browser memory as a data URL
Is never saved to disk
Is never transmitted over the network
Is discarded when the extension is deactivated

Permissions explained

activeTab — Allows the extension to capture the visible content of the current tab for pixel color reading, and to inject the color picker interface. Access is limited to the active tab and only after your explicit click on the extension icon.
scripting — Allows the extension to inject the color picker script (magnifier loupe, tooltip, pin cards) into the current page. The script does not modify page content.

Third-party services

This extension does not use any third-party services, SDKs, libraries, or analytics tools.

Children's privacy

This extension does not collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change this policy, the updated version will be published at this URL. Since we collect no data, changes are unlikely.
